Welcome to my blog!

Hi there!

Welcome to my 'thoughts log/brainstorm of ideas'. Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Stacie and I am a Speech Pathologist, practicing in Perth, Western Australia. I am very new to 'blogging' so please bear with me. I am however very passionate about everything to do with speech, language, voice, fluency, social skills and swallowing and my aim is to inform you the best way I can about these vital skills we all need for...

COMMUNICATION

My style is normally very informal (though I am a stickler for good grammar) and I'll try to throw in my usual humour to brighten up what is often tedious and sometimes boring information. I read a LOT of current research and articles (yes - including those that pop up all over Facebook!) and my aim is to summarise information whilst giving my opinion and advice on how it may be relevant.

Please take from it what you like and leave the rest behind. One of the best things, I think, about a bombardment of information on the internet (and all around us for that matter) is that there is most likely to be someone with the same opinion as you out there somewhere. I love this quote by Thomas Jefferson:

"But every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle"

So, without further ado, let me introduce myself.

I studied a Bachelor of Speech Pathology at Edith Cowan University after a few years of wondering what I would find interesting, motivating, rewarding and also fit my lifestyle. At that stage I didn't have a family of my own but I knew I wanted to attend my kids sports carnivals and assemblies in the future, so my chosen career had to be flexible. My husband, Tom, had a big influence on my final decision as he is also in the allied health field and I could bounce ideas off him! So, I settled on Speech Pathology, a profession I hadn't heard much about but seemed right up my alley.

Fast forward to now, I have THE BEST profession in the world (my opinion!) and we have a one-year-old daughter, who probably has us both wrapped around her little finger, but is an absolute joy and teaches ME new things every single day.

I grew up in a small country town in the South West of Western Australia. At the time I didn't realise how lucky I was to live in such a beautiful part of the world. To me, not much comes close and I try to get back there whenever I can. I have always been into anything sport related (netball, basketball, soccer, tennis, badminton, swimming...). I don't have time for much sport any more but one of my goals is to take up yoga!

My personal interests include anything family related and I love catching up with friends for dinner and a glass of wine. I'm keen on camping and fishing, cooking, watching movies and I love a good quiz night!

I'm going to leave it there for now, my aim is to post at least once a fortnight. If there is ever anything you feel deserves a mention, an article worth reading or some advice you'd like to ask, please feel free to email me.

Until next time, stay unique!

Stacie.
