Therapy Assistants

Unique Speech is now offering the services of very skilled and keen therapists in training to assist you with your therapy goals.

What is a Therapy Assistant?

Therapy Assistants are people trained by qualified Therapist’s to provide intensive services that implement the strategies and recommendations of your general Speech Therapist. Under the supervision of your general Therapist, they help support your child and build their skills to help reach their goals.

How do they differ from a Therapist?

The Therapy Assistant’s may be a University student, may work in early childhood education or be a parent of a child with a disability, whereas a Therapist is a qualified professional that works independently. Our Therapy Assistant’s at Unique Speech are all third and fourth year University students.

How much does it cost to hire a Therapy Assistant?

At Unique Speech we offer the services of Level 1 and Level 2 Therapy Assistant’s.

Our Level 1 Therapy Assistants cost $48 per hour.

Our Level 2 Therapy Assistants cost $78 per hour.

What is the difference between a Level 1 and Level 2 Assistant?

A Level 1 Therapy Assistant must work under the delegation and direct supervision of your general Therapist at all times.

A Level 2 Therapy Assistant works under the delegation and supervision of your general Therapist and where the Therapist is satisfied, can work independently without direct supervision, however, still following the strategies and recommendations of your general Therapist.

When should I/When is it useful to involve a Therapy Assistant?

If both you and your Therapist identifies your child needs more intense and/or frequent services, together you may agree to include a Therapy Assistant as part of your team. Your Therapy Assistant will aid in reaching your child’s goals, that both you and your Therapist have determined, while working under the supervision of your Therapist.
